News from the Chair – Erla Cilliers

Dear fellow quilters

I for one am happy that Spring is here, that means that summer holidays are also not too far away!
We are on our way to the last Friendship meeting for this year. The theme for this meeting is Pigment, another word for colour, so prepare for some surprises! Please also remember to bring your completed fidget blankets to the meeting, it will be collected at the Info desk, and handed over to the identified organisations at the meeting. I am looking forward to many great blankets!

We will have our AGM at this Friendship meeting, and I really want to appeal to you to consider spending a two year term on the committee? There are a few portfolios that will be vacant after the October meeting, and eventually the meetings are only as good as the smooth running of the arrangements, and for that we need volunteers. Please see the vacant portfolio’s and their elsewhere in this newsletter.

Then last but not least, the Committee has decided to not award the Quilter of the Year award this year. I assure you this decision was not taken lightly; it also does not mean that it will be abolished. We just think we need to seriously review the rationale for the award, and come up with criteria that can be applied consistently annually to justify the prestige of the award.
Hope you enjoy this edition, see you at the meeting on the 14th ☺

Yours in quilting
