News from the Chair

Dear Members

Chairperson/Voorsitter - Ina Meyer
Chairperson/Voorsitter –
Ina Meyer

I cannot believe that we are preparing for our last meeting of the year – where has the time gone? My two years in the chair are also over. This has been an incredible time of growth, learning and forming new friendships. Thank you to each and every one for making this an experience never to forget.

Our last meeting is of course the AGM. At the meeting we will again have a Cuppa for Cansa. There will be a tin available so please feel free to give a donation towards this very worthy cause. A representative from Cansa will be there to receive the money as well as a quilt that we made.

The Festival in Bloemfontein was a feast for a quilter‟s soul. It was freezing cold but the Bloemfontein hospitality was overwhelming and the quilts were a real visual treat. The Jacaranda Quilters did very well with no less than 4 prizes. Congratulations to (see the winning quilts!)

  • Marianne Niemandt First Prize Miniature Quilts
  • Sheila McKenzie First Prize Traditional Small
  • Ethelda Erasmus Second Prize Contemporary Large
  • Laetitia Cilliers Third Prize Contemporary Small

Congratulations also to Danel Muller and Alet Davy whose quilts were chosen to go on the Travelling Exhibition. These quilts will be exhibited in Centurion during the first two weeks in March 2014.

We will be introducing new membership cards at the AGM. Please send us a notification when you pay your subs by EFT before the meeting so that we can prepare the membership cards. Otherwise, as previously requested, put your money in an envelope with your details on it and we will do it at the meeting.

It is time again to think about the committee. Some of the ladies will be retiring, so I ask you all to think hard about giving of your time and taking a turn to serve on the committee. The Guild cannot exist without a committee – so please give this some thought. The whole guild and the meetings are to keep you enthralled in your patchwork passion.

Ek het ophou tel by ‘n duisend.

Nogmaals BAIE DANKIE!

I am looking forward to seeing you all on the 12th October to share our love of quilting and our friendship. And please – bring enough show and tell. We will again have a show and tell prize. This is by far my favorite part of the meeting!

Take care until then.

Ina Meyer
