JQG Christmas Table Runner

The Jacaranda Quilters Guild Teachers present:

All the SAQG accredited recommended and specialist teachers of the Jacaranda Quilters guild were asked to propose a 12″ quilt block to include in this project. They have come up with the most amazing ideas.

We challenge the members of Jacaranda to combine the blocks of your choice into a table runner to grace your 2020 Christmas table. You may use any layout and any color scheme as you please.

Introducing the Teachers:

Claire Wallace

I’m Claire Wallace of Quiltastix. I have a shop at my studio in Irene and stock products specifically related to free motion quilting: threads, 108″ wide backing fabrics, books, stencils, notions, quilting rulers, and templates. I’m the sole distributor for Handi Quilter long-arm machines in SA and I teach free motion quilting and custom quilt for customers. You can check out the products I have in the shop at www.handiquiltersa.com

Claire is acknowledged by SAQG as a Specialist Quilt Teacher in Free Motion Quilting. She is a SAQG Master Quilter and her quilts have brought many an international accolade back to South Africa.

Claire shared with us four fun FMQ sashing or edge patterns to finish your quilt.

Laetitia Cilliers

Laetitia Cilliers is from Garsfontein, Pretoria. She only teaches on request at the moment, since the day job interferences with her passion for quilting. She enjoys teaching blocks with triangles in all shapes and colors as well as improvisational quilting.

Laetitia is a SAQG Master Quilter, SAQG Accredited Teacher and, the chairperson of the Jacaranda Quilters Guild. Laetitia’s choice to include in the JQG Christmas Table Runner is the Ohio Star.

Do you have a fat quarter of a special cool Christmas fabric? Piece a two-color Ohio Star. Keeping the quarter square triangles in place and introducing solids, make at least two more variations of the basic block with the rest of your fat quarter. This block teaches half square and quarter square triangles.

Shanida Arnoldi

Shanida Arnoldi founded her quilt studio in 2011, completed her SAQG Teachers’ Accreditation Course in 2014, served on the Jacaranda Quilters Guild Committee from 2014-2018, and was awarded Master Quilter status at the 2019 SAQG National Quilt Festival. Her fabric studio Creamsicle Quilting stocks and sells imported 100% cotton fabric which is ideal for quilting but can also be used for any sewing project. The collection showcases prints by international designers such as Kaffe Fasset, Tula Pink, and Amy Butler as well as a stellar range of Kona Cotton Solids from Robert Kaufman. She also does edge-to-edge quilting and custom quilting on request.

Shanida shared a simple star block pattern with us. The block is designed to be made in Kona Solids. Prussian, Lapis, and Gold.

Erla Cilliers

Erla Cilliers is ‘n SAQG geakkrediteerde kwiltonderwyseres.

Blok Patroon

Danél Muller

Danél is a SAQG Accredited Quilt Teacher and member of the Jacaranda Quilters Guild committee.

I am an art quilter. I see and approach things differently. I teach from my B&B close to Menlyn in Pretoria. I love to experiment with alternative fabric and design and I’m not afraid to have a blowtorch or soldering iron in my hand. My classes include portrait studies in net and confetti quilting. I also teach beginner quilter techniques and have a passion for teaching children to embrace quilting. In my workshops: Music and Design and the EQ8 design software, I combine quilting with technology and music. My website is at www.lenad.co.za.

The block that Danél suggested for the table runner is a “Whirling Snowflake”. Two of the aspects she likes to emphasize is movement and texture. This block incorporates curved piecing, mitering, and applique.

Corrianne van Velze

Corrianne van Velze is ‘n SAQG geakkrediteerde Kwiltonderwyseres en het al by verskeie geleenthede op die Jakaranda Komitee gedien, ook as voorsitster.

Corrianne is available to teach individuals or small groups of quilters. She loves many different techniques, but improvisational blocks are presently her favorite since these are quick to make and can be used in many projects. She also does the following techniques: paper piecing, applique, and stained glass.

Wilna Potgieter

Wilna is ‘n SAQG geakkrediteerde kwiltonderwyseres.

Die blok wat Wilna voorstel is: The Gift of Christmas. Sy verduidelik dit so:

Kersfees is ‘n toegedraaide geskenk.

“The Gift of Christmas” inkorporeer strooklaslap en basislap stikwerk. (Strip piecing and Paper Foundation Piecing)

Almari Potgieter is a SAQG recommended teacher and a former JQG committee member. She teaches from her studio at home in Centurion, Pretoria. She is a quilter that takes quilting into the third dimension and many practical utility bags, workshop cases, and other practical projects had seen the light under her clear instructions. She is an inspirational teacher.

She suggested an appliquéd Chrismas Wreath as her block to celebrate Christmas.

Ronelle Serfontein

My gunsteling tegniek is basislap stikwerk (Foundation Paper Piecing), maar geniet enige tegniek.
