Improvisational Piecing Techniques

Improvisational Piecing Techniques

Jacaranda Quilters’ Guild Workshop 16 November 2019

Improvisational quilting may have many variations – from Gees Bend quilts to Gwen Marston to Maria Shell, but all have one principle in common:  Independent of the techniques you use, your decision making is done while you make – cut and sew – the quilt. You work intuitively and the quilt grows as you sew. May sound scary to the inexperienced, but it is very liberating.

Corrianne van Velze, Laetitia Cilliers and Shanida Arnoldi will introduce you to improv quilting. We will make sampler blocks covering strip sets, a free form log cabin block, gentle and not so gentle curves and a variety of triangle blocks. The last hour and a half of the day we will spend putting all the blocks together and you should leave with an improv sampler top of about 60 cm x 60 cm (24” x 24”) ready to quilt.

Venue:             Lynnwood Trinity Church from 8:30 – 16:00.

Class fee:         R280 per person. R380 for non-members.
