We have all gone through a bit of a rough patch these last few months. No, rather a major patchwork redesign that will keep us low on budget and having to do the best with what we have. Luckily, according to SAQG: “Quilters are resourceful, creative and wise and can self-isolate quite contentedly with their fabrics and quilting projects.”
As a committee, our first step in redesigning the rest of the year, is to publish a newsletter in July. The theme (Teal Blue) might be rather appropriate as many suffer from feeling a bit Blue, but we promise to make it as warm as your favourite pair of blue jeans.
We wish to include a bumper Show and Tell in the newsletter. Please send your pictures and a brief description of what you have been making during lock down to firstname.lastname@example.org or (Whatsapp your photos to Alette at 082 907 7004). Quilting, knitting, embroidery and other crafts are most welcome. If we are allowed to meet in October or November, we will have all of these on display.
Some of us did struggle to “self-isolate quite contentedly”! How have you managed to hang in there? Have you found quilting to be your therapy or happy place? We would like to share your story in the newsletter. Often, we ladies undervalue our day to day survival strategies. Send your story (in Afrikaans or English) to email@example.com or send us a tip of whom to contact for a story.
We have to stay apart, but let us connect, again. It is not the fabrics, the patterns, the lovely quilts that are the key factors in quilting, it is the Quilters.
Keep warm, keep safe, stay busy going forward even if you do it slowly.
